305 LB9 to 350 L98, is it worth it?
305 LB9 to 350 L98, is it worth it?
I just recently purchased a '91 B4C Camaro with the 305/5-speed combo. I have made a few runs at the track and am kind of dissappointed with the performance (15.4 @90mph). There are a few things I am going to try before taking a big step like 3" cat-back (to replace wrong size 2 1/2" replacement system on there now), and possibly some drag radials. I have a '92 wrecked B4C in the back yard with a good L98 that I would like to possibly rebuild and put into the '91. I was just wondering if I should just lightly mod the 305 or do I have to put the 350 in to get into the 13s? I just want high 13s, nothing more. I know the tranny isn't the strongest thing either so I'll be taking it easy til I can afford the Spohn T56 conversion. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Sure. You just have to decide if you want to have it apart twice, once to put in the engine and again to put in the tranny; or once, putting the engine and tranny in together.

Go ahead and put things on that will translate to the 350, like the exhaust. Otherwise, leave the 305 itself alone and invest your time and money in the 350.
I'm going to do just that. I have two 400 cranks sitting around and was toying with the idea of a 383 stroker, but they are of the 2 piece main seal variety, not the one piece. I think a 350 will take the T-5 out pretty quick anyway so I'll probably just stick with the 350 idea. Thanks!
I just swapped my 305 TBI to the L98...all i did was put the throttle-body system on the 350..and i can tell a huge differnce in power. I have the TPI and everything i need..just seems like it will be very time consuming....L98 is definitely a good engine to build on
