Guys who know how to mod a carb and fuel injection read inside!!!!

Ok im sort of in crisis situation. I have spend lots of time, money and effort into buildiing one hell of a fast 305 TPI, yes people made fun of me,but i didnt care, Now that im sort of done(have all parts but not put together) i've come to a realization that its gonna be alot of money to install $2,000.00. Thats for putting motor together, installing it with t-5 tranny. The 305 block has been rebuild with great parts. My question is this, Should i sell the go Fast TPI parts(for tpi parts read my signature minus the SLP runner and 52mm throttle bodie)and go with a carbed 305. Im not interested in a 350 so dont bother telling me to get one, Which is it, sell the TPI parts, or go with carbed stuff, and get rid of the fuel injection stuff, If u say carb, list a number of mods i can do to make the 305 fast, ie. heads, intake, everything.????????????????what should i do.

You missed the obvious solution... Do the work yourself. It's just nuts and bolts. Nothing mystical about plugging and chugging parts.

For a lot less than $2k, you can buy an engine stand, hoist, tilt sling, floor jack & jack stands, torque wrench, shop manual for torque values and basic engine assembly instructions, cam degree kit w/how-to video, etc. You could even rent garage space if needed. You'll know a lot more about your car, and have a huge cache of "I did it myself" satisfaction.

Huffing will go easier with TPI than carb as well.

Get a rebuild book for a Chevy small block from your local parts store. It will have all the torque values and give you the instruction you need. Also, things like a degree kit and such come with good instructions anyway. Don't under sell your own capabilities.

By the way, "didnt miss nothing of the obvious" is a double negative and means you missed all the obvious things.

To bad you live in NY. I would do it for free just to see how it works. I would stay with the TPI stuff. I have only seen 1 305 carb motor that ran real well. IT took a lot of time and patience to get it there.

Yeah, "some assembly required" can be a bit intimidating. But you can do it. I built my first 350 Chevy when I was 12. Had a shop manual (some pages missing) and a shoebox full of tools and little else.

It ran. I couldn't have been more stoked if I had just nailed the prom queen.

You might want to add a torque wrench and some plastigage to your arsenal before you try your first engine assembly, but otherwise it's pretty stright forward. You can rent a "cherry picker" for heaving the engine into place, ditto an engine stand for assembly of same.

well getting parts is really no big of deal since my friends dad owns a body and mechanic shop, we plan to start to build the motor together this sunday, I always assumed that a cam being degreed was a definite. Im sure having it degreed is best, but as of now i can even afford a degree wheel, where just gonna have to build it and hope for the best, one more question though, since the motor is an 88' 305 TPI(including stock computer and harness) and its replacing a 3.1 v6 auto tranny, What about the chip in the key, do i gotta get a replacement, will the key for the 3.1 still work when i install the 305 TPI with 5/ speed manual???
