The engine is finally back in!
It's only been 3 months since I blew up the last engine. I wasn't in a big rush to get this one finished but it's finally back in.
The new Merlin heads look nice however there seems to be a slight fitting problem. They state that the exhaust ports are in the stock location but I found the headers now sit higher. The driver side header now hits the steering column. I heated it up and expanded the dimple that was already there to clear the column. It didn't help the ceramic coating in that spot but I needed the clearance. The passenger side header needed the firewall massaged again so it could go up higher. It's not a big problem but could have been if the proper tools weren't available to do the modifications.
In one week, Sept 15-16 it'll be our last race of the season. Weather permitting, I'll finally be able to get back to the track and see how much better the new engine is. I'm shooting for a 10 second time slip now. I'm still working on exploding the 10 bolt to be guarenteed the hard luck award again this year
After that it's winter project time until the track opens again in May
