How far do I go ???? Opinions wanted!

This winter I'm going to remove the 350 TPI from my 89 Iroc. I'm going with a carb fed World Castings Motown 415 or 427 (the 450 hp. has a 2 yr. warranty and I haven't checked to see if the 500hp. 427 is as streetable and if it carries the same warranty. I'm going to build the 700R4 to withstand the hp. and I already have a 9" ford rear end w/3.70 gears. All of the computer and emission equipment are gonna be history. I'm gonna keep the power steering, but what about the A/C, do I keep or remove it??? What about the heater/core and cruise control ??? I'm going to swap to a cowl style hood, Should I go metal or fiberglass, hinge mount or pin style and which Brand. My main use will not be at the drag strip, more so a Saturday cruiser with the a$$ backing it to silence those annoying mustang drivers

Your opinions and or experiences would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks, Bruce (70GTO)

The 700R4 simply won't last even with a build up. Torque kills it and it won't take regular abuse for long.

Ok I'll give u my opinion.
A/C removal depends on your tolerance for discomfort, when I bought my Iroc I lived in MA, and to me it never really got hot enought to requre A/C,at least to me, so I toyed with the idea of removing it, but I was transfered here to KS and the temps have been 100 or above since July 4th so here A/C isn't a luxury its a survival tool! LOL but it's up to you to decide if its worth getting into a sauna bath when you get in your car in the summer.
Heater, I wouldn't get rid of it, again depending on your tolerance for discomfort, you might enjoy dressing like an arctic explorer to drive your car in the winter
Pin on hood, had a friend who had one, he hated it. A real PITA if you have to get to the engine. Not that it's terribly heavy just very awkward, and trying to find a place to put it was a pain too ( he didn't want to put it on the top, scratch the paint) I went with a metal one (cowl hood) from goodmark for my pickup, looks good and fits like a stock one.
There's my opinions FWIW sorry I'm so long winded

I think that AC is a must. Have you ever driven in the rain during a real hot and humid summer? The windshield fogs up real fast and then you can't see where you're going, so you turn on the defrost and now it's 120 in the car. Plus if you have you're going somewher with your gf and it's hot out you roll the window down to cool off, but now it's blowing her hair around so she starts complaining, and now you have a headache and she makes you roll it back up so now your sweaty, pissed off, and have a headache, just because you wanted to save 20 lbs. and .01 in the quarter. It just isn't worth all of the pain and suffering.

I personally think a built 700R4 will stand up fine, plus the overdrive is a a big plus. As for the AC. I agree, since I live in KS also, AC is a MUST! It wasn't working this year in my car, so I didn't drive it as much. Now as for the heater. Same thing. I hope you're not worried about smog control. You won't pass with that new engine you're wanting. My last bit of advice is this. Go with a steel hood. I have a fiber glass hood on my car and it doesn't fit right! There's a 1 inch gap in the very front ("direct fit" they said...) I bought it from American Sports Car. Not to mention the fiberglass cowl hood is MAYBE 1 pound lighter and shakes as I go down the road.(Scares my family, but I'm used to it.) That's my 2 cents. Good luck and have fun smoking those mustangs!
