Jasper replacement 350
Jasper replacement 350
Well, I'm past the point of deciding on what to do. It will be a Jasper engine going into my 89 IROC. I checked it out today at the shop. It's still in the plastic and I can see the roller rockers. It's a real L98 and it's got a 3 year 75k parts & labor warranty. I also got a set of Edelbrock TES headers and downpipe and a Catco 3 inch cat. Already got Flowmaster. I'm not interested in going crazy, I just want my toy back.
FYI, the original L98 motor blew a head gasket about 6 weeks ago and we drained 2 gallons of water out of the oil pan. Lots of clunking too. Not sure what happened first but it sure messed it up.
I've only heard good things about Jasper engines. Any comments here?

I've heard only bad things about them. From my machinist who did my bore and hone and stuff...
He says they dissasemble motors and toss all the parts 'that look good' into a bin, then assemble motors from these parts, mis-matching heavy 'pink' GMX and GMK rods with weaker GMA and GMB code rods, among other things...
He said he saw the inside of their shop and said it's a scummy hole in the wall (small too...) deal with kids who don't know a mic from a ruler building them.
That's his opinion, he does good work, so I guess i'll take his word for it.

i bought an engine from a parts store for my first car, 70 nova. im not sure who built it but it came from Discount Auto.
i tell you what, i beat the crap out of that motor and it dealt with it, lol. i sold the car to my uncle and he has built the top half of the motor to make some serious horse and so far its put up with it. the motor wasnt built for what hes done to it but so far it odviously doesnt have any manufacture faults.
my father has the same exact motor in his camaro and its been in there since about 93'. he doesnt drive like a 16 year like i did but its still breathing very well.
but all i've heard from this board is negativity towards chain store engines. most are "what i've been told" claims that i've seen. but, im not saying there wrong, i know im still not real sure about there product just because they can be had for so cheap.
there's my two cents
------------------
former 305 crossfire fuel injection
350 cubes
hooker headers
750 vac secondary
700r4 with shift kit
--------------------
"no man with a good car needs to be justified."

i bought one of their 300 horse 350's to put in a 1973 camaro sport coupe i had a few years ago. best damn motor i've ever had in a vehicle. thing ran like there was no tomorrow. they were very easy and great to deal with. i also thought that their prices were/are very competitive. just my .02.

FYI, Jasper is not a chain store engine. It's a quality L98 engine and the long block is right around $2k. Check it out at http://www.jasperengines.com
