Help Planning 383 Build!

I'm looking into building my 350 TPI into a 383 stroker, but I have a lot of unanswered questions! The plan is to build this motor as cheap as possible. I want to use the stock heads, which is my first problem. What is the combustion chamber volume of stock 350 heads? What kind of cam would be recomended for a mild street car/daily driver?

Just letting you know a 383 isn't cheap to build. You are going to need machine work and for the most part a whole new bottom end too. I don't know what size your heads are but if your going for a 383 you should prolly get those redone as well. What mods do you have? With the power that motor is gonna push you will need Subframe Connectors as well. If you are just starting out I would start out with some small upgrades. Buy a nice pair of headers and an exhaust. That will really wake up the 350 you already have. Good Luck!!

Re: Help Planning 383 Build!

Hey, thanks for the advice! The car is almost completely stock right now, besides a borla cat-back exhaust. If I did end up doing this build, I probably wouldn't start until next summer, right now I'm just trying to figure out about how much it would cost using the cheapest parts available. I plan on keeping it NA.

Search the Engine Swap section, someone was just talking about building a 383 and puting a turbo on it. If your just looking for a price I would say 3,000 would get you started in the right direction.

Summit racing has some good deals on a block that has all work all machine done to it. It saved me the time and trouble finding the motor and running it to the shop. Total cost after shipping was $773.90.
