How much would it cost?
I have a 91 Camaro RS 3.1. I'm thinking about getting an auto shop to yank my v-6, tranny and all, and have them put a 5.0 or a 5.7 if I can get a hold of one. Do any of you have a rough estimate of about how much it should cost me? I'll just give them the old engine, so that should get me some $$ taken off. Thanks guys.
I had a friend who does is the transmission guy at a buick place rebuild the transmission for 750 bucks, the studded 2 bolt main 9:1 350 was 900 bucks, and figure 200 bucks for parts, and 100 bucks for new tools, and with all the luxuries and a full tank of gas my swap was in at less than 2 grand, with a BUILT transmission, and a stout mill.

Assuming you brought in ALL the necessary parts (and there are a bunch of them), if anyone offered to do it for less than $2000 I would suspect: a) they're only doing a chop job on it, or b) they haven't got a clue what they're getting themselves into, or c) both a and b. People have talked about having it done for about a grand, but that was always by someone they "knew", doing it off-the-clock, and typically not an emissions-legal setup.
Unless this V6 car has some sort of sentimental value (such as being your first car or your dad bought it new or something like that), your best bet would be to sell this car and buy a factory V8 car.
Otherwise, this is the type of job that should be done by the owner as a "project". It makes no economic sense, even if you do all the work yourself.

Ive got $1500 in my project including the car. The V8 is dropping in Nov. 10th. This price includes V8 bellhousing, clutchfork, WS6 springs, WS6 swaybar, clutch kit, etc. Do it yourself and save a bundle.

Car: 1991 Corvette Coupe
Engine: L98
Transmission: 700R4/4L60 same trans different name
befriend an auto mechanic who can do inspections at his shop----then drop in a carbed 350
do it yourself and it will be about $3000
for all the parts you'll need
figure to have someone do it for you
$3000+ atleast $2000 labor= $5000
$5000 can buy a nice friggin IROC or 91/92 Z28
but for $3000 you can get all this:
keep your sentimental car
bragging rights that you did a motor swap
and a 350 under your hood
i got my $3000 figure from my own research to buy all new parts and a crate engine for my own carbed 350 swap....so if anyone's got a problem with that...well...tuff

Well..forget that.. The car has no real sentimental value, so it's not worth it..
