Casting idicator meaning oversized valves ?

I just picked up a motor from an idividual (who claims to be a mechanic). According to him thiss 350 came out of a police impala...on the back of the passenger side head is a mark that he says indicates that those heads have oversized intake and exhaust valves....or something like that.

True or False ?

False. The only way to know what sized valves they have is to measure them.

This is exactly right. The castings were all the same - it was the machining later that decided larger/smaller valves.

And despite what everyone on earth seems to think, the police never did get anything special in their cars - maybe a HD suspension and HD charging system, but thats it. The driveline was never anything 'magical'

Police cars got a severe-duty package, but nothing that increased performance. The same packages were used in taxis, for example.

Heavy duty brakes and suspension and probably a much higher amp alternator to handle the electrical load.

Re: Casting idicator meaning oversized valves ?

Ok not arguing, but whats up with the "police interceptor" badges Ive seen on cop cars? Ive seen them on "Groomes Transport" cars too....Whats the "interceptor package?, just suspension and an alternator?

There hasn't been a BBC put into a passenger car from the factory since 1976.
