Heater blower motor question...

Hey guys, recently pulled my engine and put another in its place. Problem is no heat. I read about a month ago a post similar that said that a ground may be missing. Where is this ground? where does it go to? Any other ideas? Also, where is the wire connection to the heater? I can't even find that! Thanks

Matt

Check that valve that sits on the passenger side vavle cover. My heat didnt work so I ripped that valve out and now it works perfect.

I have heat, the actual Blower Motor isn't getting power, and thus, no heat coming out the vents.

if it is getting power, then it either a. does not have ground, or b. is a bad motor, if it worked before the swap, i would say a. is your most likely answer. The ground (on my car) is bolted to the accesories on the pass side. If you think you don't have ground, cut the black wire (of the two going into your motor on the firewall) and put it to ground anywhere (the firewall would probably be easiest). This will give you a definate ground, and will allow you to trouble shoot other angles if necessary

The wires to the blower motor should be right on top of the blower motor! One is a thick purple, and goes to the center of the motor. One goes to the outer edge (chassis) of the motor; that's the ground. Put a meter on it, put the key to "on", heater to "high", and see if you get +12 volts. ([edit]- I meant to "take the wires off the blower motor and hook 'em to a voltmeter"!)

If you don't, you can check the high-speed relay (follow the wires back from the blower motor), and the fuseable link going from the blower motor to the starter motor solenoid.

When I swapped my motor I forgot to connect some ground wires that are at the back of the motor. Once the motor is in they are hard to find. trace the wires back from the blower and you wll find them.

Alright guys i searched and this is what i could find. Located on top of the ac/heater blower unit i found a plug that had four wires. 2 small ones (a orange and a yellow) and one real thick purple wire (+12v) coming from a relay. I assume to be the high speed relay. Now there is also a medium blue wire there as well which i assumed would be the ground. So i hooked up a ground to it and boom the windshield wipers come on. I don't think the heater motor went on tho. Can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong and where i should be looking for this ground? Thanks

The ground is a large black wire that hooks up to the frame of the blower motor. You can't miss it.

https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/015134.html

In Vader's pic, his ground wire is plugged onto a tab (the screw that holds it on is the little shiny thing) that's right above the purple wire above and to the left of the arrowhead pointing to the blower motor.

More than likely, your problem is not the blower motor wiring. You can check the motor easily enough by just hooking battery abd ground to it. Usually the problem with 80s vintage GM cars is the wire that feeds voltgae to the A/C control head. If you pop the head out of the dash, and look at the wires that go to the "mode" switch (A/C, Max, Heat, Def, etc.) you'll find one dark brown one that goes off and plugs into the main dash harness. That's the supply wire. The connector where it plugs in is extremely stupid, and burns to a crispy pile of ashes. I have fixed 2 Camaros, a Monte Carlo, and a Celebrity that had this exact malfunction, just within my immediate family. Replace GM's bull droppings with a set of LARGE insulated yellow spaed terminals.
