Well. . .depends what you want. Overdrive or not? If so, 700r4, it's a 4 speed with overdrive. If you want something bullet proof TH350. No overdrive. Do you want manual or auto. See what I mean?

ok i see
i would like to have a five speed
is the th350 a five speed
and can it handle a built 350
how about a chevy turbo 400 i found one for $350.00 w/70k mi on it and it is a short tail(whatever that means)
thinks alot for the info i am new to all this car talk but i would like to reuild an 84 camaro. i got for $375.00 in good shape. when i got it i was able to drive it and it ran good but it was tired and had 185,000 mi on it. so i riped every thing out of it (so it was just the body) and now i do not
know what will go together and work right.
i am only 17 teen and just want a fast car. (you know whit i mean i want to be able to race)
thinks a lot for the info.

The 350 and 400 transmissions are automatics and not 5-speeds. If you'd like to row through 5 gears you'll need to looka a T5 or T56 those are the standard transmisions for your camaro. Depending on what you mean with well build 350 motor, those two transmisions can take a lot of abuse the 400 even more then the 350 but as far as the 5-speeds go you'll need to get some posts from people with experience with them.....
