or how about a 383 Turbo?
In the end, it will still be cheaper (and outperform) the Buick V6 Turbo... unless you just happen to find one for stupid cheap.

you could find a non turbo buick 3.8, or get a chevy 3.8 (they suck bigtime)

turbo the 3.1 til you blow it up, then buy a second turbo and a 383, problem solved!

3.1 liters is half a 383, I know it's more than displacement that matters, but it'd probably work out alright.
