What intake runners are preferred?
What intake runners are preferred?
I currently have an LB9 and I'm planning on this setup:
-350 HO crate motor
-Vortec TPI manifold
-52mm throttle body
-SLP 1 3/4 headers
-Airfoil
-Some larger fuel injectors
-and either SLP siamesed runners or just oversized runners
I read somewhere that since my car is an auto, I'd be better off with the oversized runners. (do to the drop in torque that the siamesed runners would give me) Is this true? I really liked the look of the siamesed runners versus the sorta stock looking oversized ones.
Secondly, can anyone tell me what size injectors came on a stock 350? Would it be wise to just get that size injector, or go larger?
Last but not least, how much of a gain would a ported plenum give me?

I would go with the slp runners
you'll still have enough low end grunt.
350 TPI's use 22lb injectors and a ported plenn is worth about 7-10 hp.
Good luck

I think you have over looked a few things...
1.)Going to a larger throttle body might not be a good idea for your desired power level. The 502 ramjet, which requires much more flow than your 350 would, uses a stock L98 (350 TPI) throttle body. I think the money your planning on spending here would be better spent on a custom chip or chip burning software/hardware.
2.)You refer to a 350 HO crate engine. I assume you mean the GMPP 330 hp 350 that comes with the vortec heads. Nice engine, but not for use with TPI. TPI requires a hydralic roller camshaft, which this engine does not have. Without this type of cam or some serious modifications, your computer is going to go nuts.
Just some food for thought...

Never thought about that one before...so what other type of modifications are we talking about. Also, what crate motor do you recommend that does have a hydralic roller camshaft?
Thank you for the advice!

Honestly, I wanted to have a 350 that with the right mods would be close to 300 rwhp. I wanted to try and stick with TPI, keep it street legal/emissions legal, and still use 87 octane in it. Is this possible? Why is it that the ZZ4 requires 92 octane?
This car will be my daily driver for a couple of years. If it had an EGR provision,I would, without a doubt, get the mini-ram. But it doesn't
I'm not worried that I wouldn't pass inspection here where I live, but since I will be moving elsewhere after college, I may have to pass a really in-depth inspection later on.
Are my goals with my new motor out of reach or too unattainable? Thanks for any advice you can offer, I need it!

the reason the ZZ4 requires the octane it does, is because the compression ratio is 10/1, which in relevance to mild stock motors is pretty well up there. as far as what youre trying to do, youre headed in the right direction. I think l read somewhere that the ZZ4 is capable of slipping under an existing inection system fairly easily (ie. your TPI) although it does require the use of higher octane. I would imagine your computer would need some tuning, youd have to use bigger injectors, and your intake may need to be opened up a bit, like you listed (runners, slightly larger throttle body, I'd use the L98, and possibly a ported plenum) other than that I think it would probably work fairly well. I have the ZZ4 under a 750 demon, and I love it. It makes serious power in stock form.

You should have no problem reaching 300 rwhp with tpi and clean emissions. The question is how much do you want to spend. If you want a complete assembled engine to just bolt in I suggest talking with one of the larger GM dealers around. They'll sell you a stock GM crate engine modified anyway you like it, again it's gonna cost you. Here is a link to an intersting combo, for your desired power you'll need them to install a more agressive cam though:

Wanna bet the cam in that engine isn't roller tappet?
