Big Questions on TPI swap on Engine and Heads
I've got my 5.0 TBI and want to put in a good built 5.7 TPI. I want to use this engine:
Scoggin Dickey 350 2 - Bolt Main L98 Shortblock
Then IF POSSIBLE Trick Flow Twisted Wedge G2 Heads, I've read that because the block is a 2 bolt main that it might have problems.
I've got the 700R4 in there and it works great and am wondering if this will have problems with this and the block as well.
I am not expecting any problems with the fuel end of the setup. What I want to do:
Edelbrock Baseplate and Runners. Then find a junked car and rip out the Plenum (probably port it), Throttle Body, and all the assorted sensor stuff as well as the smog stuff. Then use a Painless wiring harness. Should I look at the stock version of the edelbrock junk, or aftermarket head version? I want to be CA emission legal too. I figure edelbrock TES headers will work with a catback on the heads.
Then does the Painless wiring harness have anything to do with the smog stuff and will it be ok to use in California? Or is do I even need it at all and save $300?
I'm looking at working through the summer for these parts so when senior year starts I'll have a kick *** car. Any help appreciated!

Doh! Also would I have problems using an LT-1 Cam on this block?
I was mainly attractted to the price of the cheap new block. If there is a lot of problems with it is there a better alternative?

Ah! Found it, yeah they have the other Pre 1987 Versions for 350s that should work. The Edelbrock baseplate should work as well on the heads. I wanted to be 110% sure with this.
ONLY REMAINING QUESTION:
Engine will work with 700R4??
Now wait until september and see how many more I come up with when I have the money and the install begins!

Well I know that you can use the
LT4 hot cam in a TPI,so I guess it
would work. The 700r4 will fit all
chevy V8's so it should be no problem.

Well, AGAIN more studying, what i've got is that all that should work, it's probably best that I use the MAF setup instead of the Speed Density due to that the wiring harness has a setup for a cable driven speedo in my car instead of an electric like most SDs and a good chunk of the MAF TPI firebirds (am Ir right?) It also looks like I can disconnect the ECM from where it is in the passenger side kickpanel/dash area and get out the whole harness out.
WILL THE TPI HARNESS JUST PLUG INTO WHERE THE TBI HARNESS WAS??
If I rip it out from that point can I just run it to there through the firewall and plug it in?? Avoiding a "Painless" wiring harness that seems to have it's share of problems. I'll look into emailing some people who've done this.
