I have a 1985 305 TPI in my iroc... I currently have a 1989 305 longblock on the stand. Will the tpi off the 85 fit on to the 89' block?

Someone told me that the intake was changed in 87.

If it wont just bolt on what would I need to make it work?

The "change" was to the center two mount bolts on each side being at 72 degrees instead of 90 degrees like the rest. You can either modify those bolt holes in the TPI base, or I'm sure you'll find someone willing to trade their newer base for your older base.

Or, use this opportunity to upgrade the base and choose the later style.

(By the way, it's the heads, not the block, that changed in '87. Well, the block changed, too, but not in any way to affect the way the TPI mounts.)

 

Yeah, the block changed to accommodate roller cams and roller lifters, the heads have center bolt valve covers. How hard would it be to modify the old base? Just drill 2 holes and its good?

 

More like elongate the holes.

Center bolt valve covers came at the same time, but are irrelevant as far as bolting on the base.
