Recommend me some heads!

Hey guys,

I've been doing a lot of cyl. head research and I still can't come to any conclusions. I was wondering if anyone could recommend me some heads or point me in a good direction.

I swapped a 350 L05 last summer, and I've got the comp cams XFI268 cam as well(ill post specs in a bit). My problems are the stock TPI and stock swirl port heads. I did get new valve springs which are very close to binding on the 1.5rocker heads right now with the lift from the 268cam.

In the future I'll either mod the TPI for better flow, or go with an HSR. But for now I've got the TPI and soon to have 24lb ford injectors. I'm tuning with a $6e ARAP bin on a '165 ECM.

Cam Specs:
-XFI268-
Lift: .570"/.565" w/1.6 Rockers
Duration: 268°/276°
RPM Range: 1800-5800

For heads, people always say get the AFR 195 eliminators. I would but they are so expensive! I would like to have a decent running car this summer, and I may not have that kind of money for heads just yet. Are there any comparably good heads for my setup that won't break the bank? Maybe some edelbrock heads or Darts or patriots? Some people have even suggested old vette d-comps. So, any and all input would be appreciated! thanks!

I love my Dart Pro1 200 Platinum heads. I got them for $1100 assembled. I wanted the AFRs but the Darts where much better priced.

Personally I wouldnt mess with patriots. Regardless of what some people will say, they are not performance heads.

Re: Recommend me some heads!

I have the Canfield heads. Not sure what they run now, but 5 years ago or so when I bought them they were right at $1000 shipped. They have a 2.05 intake and 1.6 exhaust. When I was looking at them the flow numbers were very similar to the AFR's for a lot less money. They only problem I had with them is that since the valves are not in the stock location I had to have the valve reliefs for the intake valve cut a little bigger on my pistons. Not deaper, but wider (this is why you need to ALWAYS check valve to piston clearance when putting new heads with a bigger cam). If you had to, you could do this with the short block still assembled.

Re: Recommend me some heads!

Pro 1's or brodix IK200's would fit the bill.

There are some members here that could get you those AFR 195's for less than 1300 bucks I believe. I paid 1450 shipped but some are claiming 1260. If you can score that then its totally worth it. I've seen a bunch of AFR/XFI combos that are putting out great numbers. HSR/268 cam is a nice combo. Best i've seen is 380whp but 360 is abit better estimate of its capability

Since you need to upgrade the TPI anyway:

Or, just get the heads and get the rest of the stuff separately, like a Holley/Weiand Stealth Ram.

Re: Recommend me some heads!

Thanks so much guys! I'll definitely start lookin around and pricing these heads out. Also, anyone have any experience with RHS heads? I've found threads here about them, but my friend swears by the price/performance of the RHS Pro Action series. Thanks again!

Search for RHS. They have been mentioned several times on TGO, usually favorably but usually not as superior to the AFR/Brodix products.

Canfield retired and decided to shut down instead of selling the business. So they aren't making heads anymore.
I have the 215s with 2.08 intakes and never had any valve to piston clearance issues with a .600" lift roller.
