Re: 305 to 400 sbc

I thought the crank journals could've looked a little better and for the price I could piece a rotating assembly together for I decided why not. Plus I have the piece of mind to spin it to 6k if I want. So win win I think.

Re: 305 to 400 sbc

What's so bad about Eagle rotating assembly with Patriot heads? How would that be a problem?

Re: 305 to 400 sbc

The recent as the last 60 days-with Eagle 3 cranks, two sent back with taper journal bearing measurements(would have to cut them 10/10 on a new cranks to make useable)and once again mag'ed one to find a cracked main just behind number two journal.Still tons of Q.C. issues.

Patriot-kind of funny a company chooses a name like that because they are totally a off shore company.Porz(SP) hole issues in the castings where they developed leaks.Close friend who owns a huge mid western distribution company ate 3/4's of his inventory in bad castings and customer resolution issues.

Just a insider look at the trades of high performance parts.........

For me to report things like this is tough. These kind of issues on companies that have a larger budget for advertizements over supplying sound reliable parts. We continue to support RHS.

Re: 305 to 400 sbc

I should consider myself lucky then I guess. I have had no problems at all with the products so far. I thought Patriot had excellent customer support as well. I guess everyone had issues at one point or another.

I can just suggest with what we know about those lines. My heart sinks everytime I hear of a failure.Sure makes it hard on the honest folks to get people to listen then.

Really not much different than anything else.you do get what you pay for and the great deals in the long run really ant.Not to be blunt,we fix them all the time too.

Re: 305 to 400 sbc

Yea that is true with anything you buy. Maybe I'll stay lucky and never have problems with them. I'm quite happy so far so hopefully it stays that way.

Funny how plans change!

What did the edelbrock elbow set you back like it.

Still got them valve covers/intake? Like that old stuff.

Re: 305 to 400 sbc

Well the funny thing is that the engine did make it in the car with just the patriot heads, the CC Qjet, performer manifold, stock cam and rotating assembly. It ran real good. Perfect drivability. One night it lost almost all oil pressure just going down the road at 55. We could not find out what was wrong. We ended up pulling it and doing bearings. While it was out we decided to step up to a Comp X4270H camshaft. Ran great but the CC Qjet mess hated it and drivability absolutely sucked. Soon after we had more oil pressure troubles and figured out that the oil level mark on the dipstick was in the wrong place and the motor was drinking oil. So that's when we prepped the other 400 block we had in a '76 Olds Starfire. This got bored, full rotating assembly and everything you see in the above pics. This motor has great drivability, will pull a 2010 Camaro at any speed, has an amazing sounding idle, and gets almost 21mpg on the highway. It should get better but the car has a bit of rolling resistance that I think is in the rear end.

And yes I still have that old Torker and the Corvette valve covers.
