help...electirc fan hookup for my 1989 firebird

i just bought a 1989 firebird...originaly came with a 2.8....the first person to put a v8 in it just cut the computer out left all other wires

A couple of friends of mine had the car and put a 327 vette motor in it for a while...they decided to put that motor in a 1976 Monte Carlo.... and were going to junk the firebird.

well now to my problem

i got the car and just got the 350 out of the Monte Carlo.

well everything is running fine....except i don't know where to hook the electric fan up at...the last people to have the car had it hooked up to...if i am not mistaken a gauge relay or something....because we got the fan hooked up and when it blew it poped the gauge fuse....so where is an alternate to hook this up at?

i am at a lose....

I'd just get a sensor and relay to hook it up. Check out summit, they have lots of kits.

Buy a temp sensor switch kit. It will come with a sensor for the motor, wires, and a relay and instructions on how to wire it.

185/170 for 180 Stat kits

Single Fan
Dual Fan

200/185 for 195 Stat kits
Single Fan
Dual Fan

Re: help...electirc fan hookup for my 1989 firebird

you can wire it to the Ignition, but it has to go through a relay.
Relay is a must otherwise you risk the wiring catching on fire.

One of my friends wired the fan straight to a switch on the dash and the wire almost caught fire. It got so hot that it melted the hood release cable since it was right next to it.
It was not fun trying to pop the hood open from underneath the car.

Go to the auto parts store and buy a relay probably be 5-15 bucks.
Do you know how to read a wiring diagram?
http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...-ok-wiring.jpg

In the above Diagram, you will make a few changes.

Disregard the Temp Switch.

Battery + goes to 30
Battery - goes to 86
Battery - goes to Fan -
Ignition Power goes to 85
Fan + goes to 87

Wires to 87 and 30 and both fan wires need to be at least 12 Gauge
Wires to 86 and 85 can be as small as 18 Gauge, but 12 Gauge will be fine as well.
