Engine bracket questions
Engine bracket questions
I have an 83 T/A.The original 305 is gone but has been replaced with a 350.I put the 350 in myself and used the mounting brackets for alt.,A/C,etc that came with the car.Everything mounts up but just seems a little off.I keep having belt issues(burning, breaking, etc). The original motor is gone so I can't compare the two engines.I think the 350 is an early 70's model.Does anyone know if these brackets will work or if I will have to find other ones?If I have to buy brackets, where can I find some that will work with my alternator and A/C comp.(if this is possible).

Re: Engine bracket questions
blocks would be the same (same mounting holes anyway) - do these heads have acc holes in them? everything should just bolt up as long as the heads have acc holes.
Re: Engine bracket questions
Not sure what acc holes are.Everything does bolt up and the car just made a 500 mile trip this past weekend.Something just doesn't seem right. The belts just don't seem to line up exactly right.I can smell the belts burning a little everytime i drive it.I am pretty sure Inhave all the brackets on right although I could not find any good pics of how the car was supposed to have everything mounted from the factory. If I had the extra money right now I would just go with a serpintine system.I have already put so much in the car with paint and so forth just trying to get it to work with as little cash as possible.Any thoughts or pics would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Engine bracket questions
I was referring to accessory bolt holes - in the ends of the heads - might not even need them with a 1983 setup I don't know. You should be able to tell just by looking at it if the belts are lining up correctly - if they look out of line, then they are for sure. Maybe need a washer here or there to tweak it staright.
I've removed my serp system for 1/2 serp 1/2 v-belt. I ditched the A/C and smog pump, relocated my alternator to my pass side using a simple $30 Mr. Gasket old school bracket, and p/s pump is attached via a wallet-busting $105 March bracket - I know with the March bracket there was alot of tweaking here and there with washers to get everything lined up well.

Re: Engine bracket questions
I was hoping tofind some good pics of a factory setup. The only ones I can find already have the radiator shroud and such in place and that makes it difficult to see everything.Surely someone on here has had these kinds of issues or has some good pics.I am getting to the point of desperation with this car. It's good weather and I should be driving it instead of working on it every day.
