Engine Build/Builder
Engine Build/Builder
I have been going over Atilla's engine build thread and a couple have peaked my interest.
I was wondering if anyone knew of a good shop in the area to have one of these done at. I live in Michigan just north of Detroit in Port Huron so my choices here are very limited being a small town and all.
Since Atilla is in Utah that isn't an option for me unfortunately.
Any information is appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Engine Build/Builder
A couple of those are just crate engines with cam swaps. Anyone can buy a crate engine. Which builds were you liking?
Re: Engine Build/Builder
I was favoring the carb'd 383 set up. I really like the not so legal one you have posted but the other one would suffice I'm sure.
I don't have any emissions testing here so I could go with the stronger one.
I'd like to keep my 700R4 trans. Would that be an issue?
I currently have the stock 2.73 posi so I know I would need to do something about that eventually.
What would the cost be on either of those do you think?
Thanks

A well-built 700R-4 will live behind either of those 383s.
As for the cost, the cheapest route is to start collecting parts, and do it yourself. This is a SBC after all, not rocket science, as much as the results will feel like a rocket.
Just buy all the parts and bolt them together. This is the universe's easiest engine to learn how to build.
And that sense of accomplishment...
There are enough knowledgeable guys here to help you through any difficulties, the moderators can tell you who knows their stuff and who you shouldn't pay attention to. I'll be here for several more months.
