Hi i have an 89 GTA that i need an engine for. I found one at the local salvage yard but it is out of a chevy truck. The guy at the salvage yard said that it is interchangeable but i would have to swap intakes is this true.

He probably said that because the GTA is TPI, and the truck is TBI.
Can we be clear here? "Vortec" truck engines didn't start until the 1996 model year. SBC's had center bolt valve covers for 9 years before that - center bolt valve covers does NOT mean "Vorted heads"!
Swirl port, TBI, centerbolt valve cover truck engines were made from 1987 through 1995. There is a much greater chance that a light truck 350 will be swirl port LO5 than it is it will be a 1996-1999 L31 "Vortec" SBC.
And, yes, your '89 GTA TPI intake base will bolt right on to an '87-'95 light truck 350.
