1984 PONTIAC 5.0

Hi motorheads,

I have been thinking of upgrading my 305 HO to a new engine. Thinking of a 355 with around 375HP. I think the T5 trans is rated at about 250FPT. Should I rebuild or upgrade to a TKO?? I know that I will need a new clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing. What about the rear end and axels.

I autocross the car so I don't need more Hp than 375 if even that much.

Let me know your thoughts,

SpokaneTA

Why not upgrade to a 6spd? A stock t56 drop out can be had for cheaper than a TKO, and they are rated at 450ft lbs. The swap has been done many many times and theres tons of info on how to do it.

That's a great idea. I should be able to find one around this area. Hopefully I can find one and the engine that I am getting reading to purchase has around 425 HP. More than enough for auto cross.

Thanks

Make sure it is from a '93-'97 V8 f-body. While you can make other versions work, the years and model listed above would be the easiest to get to work.

Re: 1984 PONTIAC 5.0

The person who has the T56 says that it came out of a late 90's Cadillac. I asked for the numbers on the trans to find out if it is compatable. Probably came out of a CTX or STX Cadillac.
