ok this is already done but im curious
this was my brothers car but is now mine. its a 1991 rs camaro. ok so here is what im curious about. when he got the car it had the 305 tbi in it. he got a 87 iroc and swapped the motor rear end and what not. well he rigged the dash from the 87 into the 91 so what im wondering is. Is there any way to put the 91 dash and everything back into the car or no? the wiring harness is different and so are the gages i believe. so does any one know if it can be done or can some 1 tell me how to put the 87 dash into the 91 the right way?
also i will post up pics of it tomorrow with the dash and motor and everything. i dont have the camera on me right now but ill bring it to work tomorrow and take pics of it all and upload them tomorrow night.

Using the '87 dash was dumb, IMHO. I'd go back to the '91 dash.

that's obviously already been established by the OP. he wants to know if he can go back.
yes you can. it'll take a little bit to get the gauges to work though.

Cable drive vs. electronic speedometer, VSS buffer, VATS - I can understand why it may have been done, but it didn't have to be done that way.
How much of the removed stuff do you still have available? I assume the transmission was also swapped along with the engine and rear end. The '91 VSS can be removed from the original transmission and installed on the '87 transmission (will require removing the output housing and transferring the sensor trigger from the output shaft). VATS and the VSS buffer box can be by-passed so the '87 ECM doesn't go bonkers.

If you don't have the original parts, and everything is working, I'd leave it alone.
If you do go for a '91 parts car, at least get a TPI model. But, unless it has engine and transmission (especially transmission), it still won't have everything you need.
