The usual, 305 to 350

Looking to do a 350 swap since I am tired of the "dog" 305, plus it needs a rebuild anyway so might as well go bigger I have a few questions about the swap though.

For starters, I know of a TB 350 out of a 94 Chevy pickup that is on CL in my area.

I was reading endo666's swap and saw the talk about the heads from a truck engine not being great for this job, but still doable?

That should mount up to my 5 speed right?

Also, I have heard that truck motors have different motor mounts.. Not sure how true that is, but could someone fill me in on that one?

I guess that's all I've got for now. My plans are probably to run a mild cam and looking for about 300 hp.. Carb'd setup as well.

It will be a direct swap, your T5 will fit with your current flywheel and you can use the clamshell mounts from the 305.

Re: The usual, 305 to 350

Great. Now for head selection... Can those stock ones be cleaned up enough to put out some decent horse? I know those 350's, right before the vortec, had like.. 170 hp... And I'm looking to get to 320 overall for the engine. So would a port and polish do them some good?

I also could use the heads from my 305 I guess, not sure of the casting number on them, but I heard that might restrict airflow, but increase compression? What do you guys think. Trying to get by for now on the stock ones.

I would love for some aftermarket ones but at face value they seem kinda out of my range for now. Unless there are some nice, relatively inexpensive ones out there.
