Crank Pulley
Crank Pulley
Anyone have a pic of the crank pulley that would have come on an 83 t/a.I bought the car without the engine but was given the brackets off the original engine which included a crank pulley. Not sure if it the correct one since I have had belt issues ever since installing the new motor in car.Alternator belt has an annoying chirp that I can't get rid of.Can't find any pics of the pulley anywhere online so hoping someone out there has one or has seen one.

Re: Crank Pulley
there are basicly two styles of 3-groove,long pump,
v-belt pullies used on '69-early85 SBCs with A/C:
-the style used with the A-6 compressor,'69-81,
crank pulley has 1 large diameter groove and two
smaller grooves behind-W/P pulley used with this
crank pulley has 1 groove,sometimes 2 grooves-one
large,smaller dia.groove behind.
-other style used with R4 compressor,'76-'85,
crank pulley has 3 large grooves, uses W/P pulley with
2 grooves of the same size, ofthen with a smaller dia.
groove on the nose to drive a smog pump.
If the wrong crank or pump pulley is used the ratios
will be off and you will get major belt squeal and
probably smoke too
BTW as mass produced parts made by several different
suppliers, these pulleys often have axial or radial
runout-originals on my car had runout,so i got several
sets at the junkyard and checked them all untill i got
a set with perfect runout
I can check my spares stash for part #s if you want...

Re: Crank Pulley
Thanks for the info.I think this could be my problem.I am running one that has three grooves but the outside groove is quite a bit larger than the other two.Sound like I may have the wrong ratio. Some part #'s would be appreciated if you have them. Thanks for your help.
