Common cam question im sure
so ive used the search button but havnt found the answer im looking for. im doing an hsr swap very soon and i decided to do a cam swap to help me make even more power up top.
im looking for a mild cam that will give me noticeable gain but wont kill me on gas milage ( this is a daily driver)
if anybody can give me a part number to a cam like this i would really appreciate it.
forgot to mention i have stock heads and 1.6 roller rockers

Look at this one here
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-08-502-8/
Needs new valve springs of course, re-use your old roller lifters and all that.

i was also looking at a lt4 hot cam but i dont have a stall and that may be a bit too much for my 700r4 at idle. i may go ahead and call comp cams and ask them.

i just dont want to sacrifice too much gas milage. ive heard cam swaps tend to do that sometimes. also ive never tuned a prom and doing a hsr and new cam at the same time is going to take some tuning so im still a little skeptical

Since you have the equipment you can dive into it. You'll be surprised sometimes how well a MAF car with a good starting bin willl drive with big cam setups.
My "light" modded starter bin (AUJL 6E mask from 89 L98)for my big cammed AFR 195 headed HSR 383 started and drove fine, although idle was abit rough and WOT was WAYYY off. But the point is, you can start, idle and drive it around ok without much change to the basic idle parameters. The starter bin I had didnt make many changes at all. Just changed idle rpm, timing, and few minor things with EGR/fans/etc that dont really effect much. Car started and ran on its own.
My friends cam/heads L98 runs an ARAP 6E based bin and to be honest, not much changed for idle parameters, just idle rpm and such.
But yeah, go too big on the cam dont expect much gas mileage
The cam Sofa recommended is a nice cam for a driver. Wont be horrible to tune and should run really well on a 6E based system that you have. MAF does compensate a good deal. Idle air fuels can be off alittle due to cam overlap but still stable enough to drive. Small tweaks from there and you have a driver.
