350 Long Block Swap
I'm looking into swapping out my 350 (from 77 truck however it is currently installed in my 1990 Camaro RS) into another that has TBI. Right now the long block is already in another car and has a high rise intake and a 4-barrel double pumper Holley Carb.
I'm not gunna bullsh*t anyone here, this is what I'm trying to do. I have a 1992 Chevy 2500 that has a 350 TBI in it. The engine is shot and needs a complete rebuild. I just rebuilt the engine that is in my Camaro, but the car itself needs WAY too much work and I'm having tranny problems. What I want to know is can I take the engine out of my camaro (currently set up with carburetor) and take just the long block portion and put it in the truck? In other words, will the intake and everything from the 92 truck bolt up to the valley on the long block from my camaro without fitment issues??
I know this is a Camaro forum, but if you can't answer my questions, can you point me to someone who can?
I appreciate any feedback guys

Re: 350 Long Block Swap
you could just run the carb motor in the truck if you want or if you wanna keep the tbi you could probably put the good motor in your truck and swap the intake and throttle body onto your good motor. Also may have to swap some sensors so they have the right hookups for your truck wiring harness.

Re: 350 Long Block Swap
If the heads on the engine in the truck are vortecs, than the intake will not swap onto the '77 block (unless is happens to have vortec heads, too) and if they arent vortec's than the intake may work, or it may have to have the center holes modded to work on the '77 block.

Re: 350 Long Block Swap
The truck is a '92 so they shouldn't be Vortec heads. Should swap right in bud, just make sure you keep your truck flexplate and reattach all the appropriate sensors (knock, crank position if it has it, etc.)

Thanks for the input guys,
I really appreciate it. We are definitely keeping the truck TBI because by taking it out, it's going to cause too many issues with the computer. I want to keep that part as simple as possible.

Re: 350 Long Block Swap
Just make absolutely sure your TBi manifold is The Gen 1 bolt pattern, and not the Vortec head pattern. The two are absolutely, irrevocably different. There is no way to adapt them that I know of. From what I UNDERSTAND, the L31 "5700 Series" motor didn't come into play until 95. Could be wrong though!
EDIT: Or you could always just keep the heads from the wasted 350. They'll prolly be better than the ones the '77 has anyway.
