i just removed my v6 motor mounts off my 92 and installed v8 solid mounts for my 383 and the v8 mounts did hang off just a little bit.

yep, the V8 mounts do hang off the front of the crossmember just a bit. Just get 3 good bolts through both the mounts and frame on each side.

The proper V8 mount holes are already there in your V6 crossmember. Put the mounts where they belong. Yes, they do hang over slightly. I'll try to get a pic of mine tonight (factory V8 car).

Re: v6 to v8 swap
id like to see a pic of that since swapping a 6 for and 8 is one the ideas ive been kicking around. so the only thing needed for this swap is a set of V8 motor mounts?

Which gears: You might get close by looking at the 1991 Camaro Tech Data from the home page. Best way to find out is to pull the diff cover and look (probably need to change the gear lube, anyway).

Re: v6 to v8 swap
if your car came with an automatic transmission, a '91 V6 should have a 3.42:1 gear. This is plenty strong for a mild 350

Re: v6 to v8 swap
My solid mounts hang over a bit too. I used the three holes too.
I have a 92 RS that came with the V6 and was thinking about keeping the 3:42's when I did the engine/tranny swap but decided to go 3:73's after talking with a few people based on HP and street/strip use (mostly street). After 17+ years you may want to have the rear rebuilt anyway- my carrier bearings were showing signs of wear. Just a thought.

Re: v6 to v8 swap
not to rehash the beaten topic, but i had a similar question and i just wanted to make sure that im doing this build right the first time. i have a 84 that had a 2.8 and the guy that killed the 2.8 sold me the car, had a 305 he gave me with the v8 mounts. so i wount have to drill or modify the k-member? and it will be strong enough for a little stronger than stock 5.0? than you very much im sure this is a newbie question, i just dont want this to comeback and bite me in the rear

The crossmembers weren't V6 or V8 until they were mated with the mounts, engine, & car. So, no difference in strength, bolt holes, etc.
People have used the stock crossmember for race 350's, 383's, even 454 big blocks. It's plenty strong.
