So I am putting a '71 Pontiac 455 out of a firebird trans am into my GTA and I am asking my fellow members to help me out to give advice about it. Like the headers issue and the wiring considering (mine came with a 350 tpi) with digital gauges and the whole GTA option package like the system check on middle dash and other cool stuff... The transmission mounts and engine mounts. I baught the engine from a local builder who built it up with about 450 horse I am only 17 and will not be able to work on it 24/7 cause of school but plan to go into the engine rebuilding and auto mechanics career.

fyi the 455 didn't come out till 1970, And didn't go into a trans am until 1971

Yes! Lol but I have many years to complete it I want it done by 2012 power tour, cause it's in Wisconsin! Lol but I have lots of help from you guys and my stepfather and the guy who actualy built the engine. So I think I can finish it... Lol

 

went and looked at engine today cant tell much more then what was said

 

what head # is on just wondering i want to get an idea of your c.r. you my have to run premium gas(alot of those old pontiac engines before 74 had 10.5-11:1 c.r.'s) .... it should be a big # cast into the top of the exhaust port on the drivers side of the engine.. the size if its a 455 should be cast into the block at the top were the tranny bolts up. it could still be a 455 and and be older then 70 as pontiac used the same block on all their V8's so all most of the small v8"s can be bored and stroked to any of their displacements...

 

Good luck man its not too bad to do. The only problem is exhaust. You can run manifolds and have a exhaust shop bend u a y pipe (what I did). Or u can try and find headers that will fit lol supposably 2nd gen headers fit
