changing motor, wire questions
first i would like to say thanks for the help
this is my first engine change and i am alittle lost and have some questions
i have an 89 camaro RS 305 TBI and i am putting in a 388 with an edelbroke fuel injection kit. i pulled my engine last night, now my question is what should i do about my old harness, i dont need it since this new injection kit has its own computer and harness. i need to keep the alternator, ac pump, tranny, and whatever other connectors in the car and i see that the wires run in the same loom that all the connectors for sensors run. so do i need to take all that apart to seperate the hanesses?
and thier is also a connector on the dash on the drivers side, im sure i need to keep those for my gauges but i think they also go to the computer?
i looked on here for the pin outs for my computer but i cant find it, i think that may help me also so if you have any info on that, that would be great

Re: changing motor, wire questions
if you're doing away with the factory fuel system, then you don't need the factory engine computer. however, you will need to take care of the lockup on the 700r4, whether the edelbrock setup can do it or if you have to get a different kit.
the passenger side harness can disappear - it has nothing to do with your gauges or the rest of the vehicle electrical system (that's what the driver side harness is for)

Re: changing motor, wire questions
i was wondering about that lock up on the tranny, i dont think the new computer will do that for me, ill have to look into that kit. i have not started tearing into the wireing so where does the passenger side and drivers side split because i thought it was all one harness?
Im guessing the alternator wireing has noting to do with the stock computer so it should just come out of the loom by its self, same with the fans and AC except for the ac wire tellling the computer it is on to bump ut the idle.

ok i was looking on summit, looks like they have one for 160 that i can manually lock my converter. is it ok if i just leave that stuff unpluged and not worry about converter lock-up or will that damage my tranny?

Re: changing motor, wire questions
Alright well tonight i stripped everthing from my old harness. i ended up taking everything off the computer connectors but i had 2 left on the C207. here is a pic of it, the tan/wht wire in pin D says controll fan in my diagram i got so i think i need to keep that for the fused power to one side of the relay (correct me if im wrong)
Then i had Pin M black/white wrie left because i didnt know if i needed, altough it is already cut off of my harness. if i remember right it was connected to a splice that went to a ground. my paper work says it is called idle speed controll, Fuel controll, vehicle data controll. What made me keep it was the Vehicle Data controll part becuase i was not sure if that was important... please let me know if i need that or can i just cut it away.
in the pic you can also see the pnk/black wire, i removed that already, i think it went to some kind of spark modual, it was a flat 4 pin connector i think.
and let me know if i took anything off i need. sure hope i didnt

and another question was i think i read somewhere on here my camaro, a 305 TBI had its fans controlled through the PCM but it looks like to me on wire diagrams its not, so i kept all my fan realy wires and connections
i took all my fuel pump relay wires also.
remember this is for an engine that has a stand alone FI kit so its like putting a carb motor in my car as far as this wire harness thanks for the help
