whats so great about a 383 stroker

this isn't a debate or bash thread. I'm genuinely curious whats so great about a 383 stroker motor. most i read about are in the mid 400hp range... but so are most built 350's I'm not an engine builder and iv never driven a car with a 383 so like i said I'm just wondering if I'm missing something here.

tons of torque, thats why a lot of guys myself included go for the 383, you can build these so much more affordably than you could 10-15 years ago,and the extra cubes you will really feel,a big plus to some people is you can keep your original 350 block

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: whats so great about a 383 stroker

33 more cubic inches; cheeep to build, easy, plentiful, reliable.

Other than that, it's just another motor.

Re: whats so great about a 383 stroker

ok so is per say a 400hp 350 going to drive different then a 400hp 383? again just curious cuz if its only a bigger cubes or displacement then why? more torque i understandable. hope i dont sound naive i just like to be informed. i just finished the 350 for my camaro but i have another motor that i'm going to start here for my other toy car and i want get serious power out of it.

That 400 hp 383 will make that power with a less radical cam, and will be more streetable. Also it will make more torque and make it and a lower RPM than the 350 will.

i see. so potential is a lot bigger with the 383. i'm sure this is common sense stuff for most i just didnt want to assume.

Re: whats so great about a 383 stroker

I dont think it is common sense because the people who know about this are will informed. The potential is a lot bigger, and with less money you can make the same power in a 383 than in a 350

Power comes from burning gasoline with air. A larger engine lets you burn more molecules of gasoline with more molecules of air on every rotation of the engine, up to the limit of how much air can flow through the heads.

Re: whats so great about a 383 stroker

well i consider myself kinda inept when it comes to understanding this stuff. im great with tools and if you tell me how to do something with motors i'm all over it. i just dont understand it sometimes. the motor i just built(its in here) i followed a build. i couldnt put the combinations together on my own. not yet anyway. im in my mid 30's but new to really wrenching on motors. but i find now that i'm older and the bank account is'nt as strapped as when i younger.... its funner and easier lol thinks guys makes sense as far as the 383 goes.

Re: whats so great about a 383 stroker

Some of the best things about having a 383 over a 350 is you can run a lower stall TC and get the same performance, you can run a bigger cam and not hurt idle quality and if the motor combos are the same a 400 hp 350 vs a 400 hp 383. The 383 will be the quicker of the two given the same setup because of the extra low/mid range torque. You can have a very streetable 383 that runs mid 10s on motor and pull 14" of vacum with no problem. Trust me I know

Yup, and it will look just like a regular ole 350 but pull like a big block. If you want I can pm you my build and dyno for research.
