305 carb to 350 carb
305 carb to 350 carb
Hi everyone, I was wondering if it is possible to swap a 305 to a 350 in a 85 z28? What will need to be changed if anything? Are motor mounts the same? Will exhaust manifolds bolt up? Will sensors or computers need to be changed? what year 350 block will work? Will trans hold up? and any other things you guys know.
Thanks
Thanks

motor is pretty much all bolt up, but id re use ur intake and carb so u kno u wont have any probs with it running off the computer, everything is bolt up cuz essentialy the 305 and 350 are the exact same size, thus why intakes and heads are interchangable amongst almost small block chevys i think

Yes, you can bolt a 350 into an '85 305 car. But, as usual, the devil is in the details. You'll have issues if you try to bolt in a 1969 350, or a 1999 350. Fewer problems with a 1980-1985 350, better end product if you go with certain 1987-1995 350's, etc., etc., etc.
Give us an idea of what you're looking to get out of this project, what level of mechanical skills/experience you have, where you would be getting the 350, etc., and we'll see how we can help.

Re: 305 carb to 350 carb
ok thanks I know someone with two sbc's out of a 69 k10 truck and probably early 70's truck not real sure and i was just looking to get a lil more power while replacing the 305 with a cracked block. i dont have a whole lot of experience i replaced a transmission once in a truck and other small things. but anyways would they fit or am i better off just finding a 305 in a junkyard rebuilding it and throwing it in

The truck engines would have horrible heads that weren't made for unleaded gasoline. If you are sure the 305 block is cracked and not the heads, put the 305 heads on one of the 350 truck blocks.
The earlier engines had the dipstick on the driver side. The tube will go right where your exhaust manifold is. The solution to this is to either get headers, carefully bend the dipstick tube so it clears the exhaust manifold, or get a flexible dipstick tube.
Otherwise, all of your emissions equipment will fit.
There are so many different crate engines out there, we'd need more specifics about the engine you are considering to be able to address it.
