3.1 to 5.0...what do i need to swap?
3.1 to 5.0...what do i need to swap?
I have a 92 Firebird with an EFI 3.1 V6. I'm buying a 305 in the spring. I'm really hoping a can keep my 5 speed in it if thats possible with an adapter. Right before I buy it I"m going to sell the V6 of 117K miles with the CPU and exhaust system for 700-900 dollars (sounds fair?). Ive read that I might be able to keep the radiator but that sounds iffy to me. I know the struts and shocks are fine and the same for all models. I will be getting a new hood to account for the carburetor. We will be redoing the mounts or getting adapters if possible. Is there anything else that might need changing. The tranny is my main concern, because I like my stick shift XD. And yes, I'm an amature, feel free to bash my knowledge as long as you can answer my questions. Thanks

Don't count on getting $700-900 for that old set up. I had enough trouble selling a 100,000 mile 350 vortec with full harness.

Re: 3.1 to 5.0...what do i need to swap?
I'll be picking up a 91 with the 3.1 efi I was just hoping someone would come take it out of my garage for me, to make room for a 5.7 tpi engine, comes with computer wiring harness, injection acc. So I'm hoping it will be a simple but time consuming conversion. I'll have to see if the tranny cross member is the same, but if not shouldn't be hard to find one of those. I'll be taking time on my project, going through everything, cleaning and replacing things, and of course upgrading were it is needed. good luck with your swap. Dont forget to post pics too

well how can I say no to a florida car with proof its from florida, and every option I want, full clean interior for around $500.00 ? Plus on top of it I have a complete v8 set up to go in it. With the two coming together Im gonna have a super clean and fun car to drive for the summer for all of 1100 bucks ? Where could I buy that with out having to have something fixed ? Specially here in MI.

What are you doing for suspension? And the V-6 5-speed won't last long behind the V-8, plus you need the V-8 bellhousing.
You will end up spending 3k+ on it and having a car worth less then a stock V-8.

no no, i think you have me and the other guy confused, I having a 700r4 redone, which will bolt up to the v8, Im redoing all brakes and suspension with alone drop springs that would be suitable for a v8 car.
yea i think the other guy posted that he wanted to keep his stick shift.
