engine builders help

so i am building a new motor for my car it's looking to be like a 355 tpi

my bottom end is in the machine shop right now the guy wants 900 to do the whole bottom end and put it together with a new kit
is that a good price?

i have a set of dart iron eagle heads 64cc and a 200 intake runner size
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DR...010P/?rtype=10
i bought them off my friend who does a lot of racing he said they are ported. the springs are huge in comparison to the stock springs

this is what i need from you guys
cam
rocker arms
length of pushrods
maybe new intake base
anything else i forgot just mention it please

i need the car on the road once the weather warms up so if i can hold off on getting a different intake by siamesing this one i will

also what is better mail ordering a chip or learning how to tune it

the car is going to be my daily which is why i am staying with tpi because i have to pass nj state inspection i am on a budget but its not real small i also have a new rear end with disc brakes and an eaton 3.23 posi unit nd i have the adjustable brake pressure

thankyou

Re: engine builders help

Unless there's something I'm missing, pushrod length should be factory. Rocker arms are adjustable.

Rockers depend on the diameter of your rocker stud, but I prefer scorpions. Great quality for the price.

Intakes you will have to talk to other TPI dudes about, I'm clueless. Comp Cams and Crower both offer some nice streetable CC compatible cams, just poke around the TPI forum, lots of good suggestions there.

What EXACTLY are you getting for $900?
What parts did you supply?

What we need to KNOW 1st is;
What block ; roller or flat tappet?
What gears / stall?
How do you intend to drive it ;DD or track car?

All very well but the springs need to match cam being used.
Get it wrong and you will be like another member here this week blowing the lobes off the cam

Re: engine builders help

thankyou i supplied the block with the crank and original pistons they are going to bore the block out .030 over sonoflux it, cut the crank and then re install everything so besides cam it will be a rebuilt bottom end with flat top pistons

it is a flat tappet block so pre 87 i would presume and im not sure what u meant by gears/stall i am going to do a 700r4 with a shift kit and a corvette servo my rear gears is an eaton 3.23 posi unit

this car is going to be my DD

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: engine builders help

For yerbasic "rebuild" machine work and parts, with assembly, that's about right.

You won't get a "race" or even "performance" setup, or that level of attention to detail, most likely though. But for a DD, probably adequate.

For the cam, look at the version of the Comp XE262 that's ground on a 114° lobe separation. I don't recall the grind # off the top of my head. It's not the "standard" XE262 which is on 110° LSA.
