I'm pretty good with cars, but wiring is just another thing im not quite friendly with, at least in cars. I wanted to ask your opinions on how I will run my setup in my firebird. Here’s the story, I picked it up this winter as a project car, it’s a 1991 Firebird “Bandit II” it originally came with a TBI 305, that blew up from the previous owner, so he swapped in from what I hear is a 350 TPI from an 87 Trans Am, which the block number matchs. So the intake bolts are different. If I get an older style intake with the right bolt pattern, can I run the PCM for the tbi that was on the 305, or what modifications would I have to do to make this work? I obviously need the pcm for one reason, VATS. Would it be easier to bypass VATS and run carb or? I don’t know.

If you could help me with some answers as to what todo PCM/Wiring wise, that would be awesome.

 

'87 TPI and '91 TBI use the same intake bolt pattern.

Can we assume the car doesn't run currently?

How much of the TPI engine was swapped in? If the entire TPI set-up, then, no, you can't use the TBI ECM as-is. It can be used with reprogramming, but it's usually cheaper to get a TPI ECM.

 

The car currently does not run yes, they swapped from what i believe a TPI block, different heads then, non-tpi heads, Im looking to run TBI because the wiring harness is setup for it already because its stock. I do not have any of the TPI stuff, just the tbi stuff from the original motor ( 305 ).
