92 RS Motor Install Issue, need help by morning
Ok i'll keep this real short and to the point.
92 RS T-Top 305 auto trans. (car)
I took out my blown 305 and am installing yet annother 305...
Motor came out easy as can be, but installing the new motor i have found is not very easy. The motor slid right in, the torque converter lined up, and the motor mount bolts slid right in on the driver side, and had to fight a little to get the passenger side motor mount bolt in but it finnaly slid on in.
THIS is where i ran into an issue.. It looks as if my trans has slid back 1/4 of an inch, i took out the 2 motor mount bolts and lifted the front of the motor and got the top 3 bolts started on the trans... then lowered it back down and slid the motor mount bolts in just as before, driver side easy, passenger side a little fight but still easy.. But for the life of me i can get the trans to slide any closer to the block, i've lifted the front of the trans trying to get everything alined but it still looks as if eather the front of the motor is two high, or the rear is to low...
4 1/2 hours of fighting this with a 2 guys and my girlfriend helping trying to get the trans to slide on in... everything looks correct and looks as if it should just pop in.. but its not..
Any clue as to what i need to do or what happened.
Also my brother pointed out that my block says CANADA on it.. any clue whats up with that?
Also the motor im installing is a 1990 block.

4-1/2 hours???
in 4 1/2 hours with all the wiring aside and open engine bay, and an angine hoist, you can pull out and put back the engine with tranny attached more times than I have fingers.
Drop the tranny, attach it while it's out and put them in together

its possible that somehow the converter and tranny slid back and are not in sinc anymore. which means you will have to pull the trans and reset the converter back in the tranny. i have done that and held it in place with a tie wrap till i got it close.

Re: 92 RS Motor Install Issue, need help by morning
Thanks guys i was fearing i would have to do that.
My biggest issue is that i'm working on a dirt floor shop.
and the second big issue is, my motor hoist is not long enough, it smashes the front bumper in a LOT trying to drop the motor, I went ahead and let it smash it in dew to it was already on my list of parts to replace as it was cracked and broke in several areas. so to pull the trans and drop them together i'll have to take it off. I'll head out to the shop in the morning and start unbolting the trans, and motor and front bumper and hopefully drop the motor and trans in at the same time.
Thanks again guys you are a big help, i was almost to the point to take it to a shop.

If you've already had the TC off of the tranny, just be careful to push, spin, and push some more. The TC has to go over 2 sets of splines.
When you install the 3 bolts to the flexplate it will pull the TC to the correct location

the fun of a restoration project. I will however need to hurry with sanding and spray the paint before the humidity sets in.
Who knows, maybe I'll be wearing shorts in a few weeks
