Engine swap help and ideas please
Engine swap help and ideas please
Well it's been a while since I've been here last, ended up selling my 86 RS and giving away my 77 LT all because of an evil gold digger of an ex. Anyhow, I have my v8 fix handled but now a buddy is in need of upgrading his 87 Camaro RS. The thing has a 2.8 v6 and 700r4 tranny, the problem being that the engine is making the "death rattle" and he is looking at motor swaps. Since I'll be the one doing the actual swapping part of this I want to get all my ducks in a row so this can go off without too much knuckle busting "fun". With the car being an 87 what emissions crap do I have to watch out for and what kinds of mayhem can I get away with? He has most of a 350 that needs to be put together but aside from that I'm not sure what else he has or needs. We were also discussing the possibilities of swapping in a supercharged Buick v6 (if we can find one worth sticking in).
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Emission stuff all pretty much the same on all these cars - what you can remove and what you have to keep dpends on the local inspection in your area - federally it's illegal to remove any of it, but when's the last time you saw a fed look? If there's strict emission restriction in your area, you'll be force to swap in a complete 305 TBI, 305 TPI, or 350 TPI setup, including harness, computer, etc.
If swapping to a V8 in that car, you'll need a new tranny as well - can't connect a V8 to a V6 tranny.
