4.3 swap?

Hey I have a 91 Camaro with the 3.1 and I really like the gas milage. This is my daily driver. Now the 3.1 dosent really have a whole lot of power.

My question is what do you think about a 4.3 Vortec swap?

I would like to keep the same trans though Ive been told Id have to get a different angle trans. Dosent really matter I'd just prefer that route. Id have to switch out the computer and wiring harness to I think. So basicaly for about a stock gain of 50 horse is it really worth it? As I said Id like to keep gas milage down and still have a bit more power.

Re: 4.3 swap?

I'm doing this swap to an 89 firebird. Although its a non vortec 4.3. 88 without the balance shaft. They can swap in, but since it'll need motor mounts. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...-4-3-swap.html
heres the thread someone else did, it is pretty good. All the pictures are gone.

You'll need a sbc bellhousing to get it to bolt up to the 4.3.

Re: 4.3 swap?

If you are keeping the EFI and having to go through the wiring anyway, why not do a 4.8 Vortec swap? If you kept it fuel injected you could prolly knock down 25+ mpg (Depending on how heavy your foot is) And a 4.8 vortec sounds a million times better and would be more torquey and have more HP for when the rice boys feel fiestey.

Re: 4.3 swap?

Thanks I did a search but nothing came up. I'll check this out.
Any reason you went with non vortec? I mean over a vortec.

I hadnt thought about a 4.8 Vortec. I have been really impressed with the 4.3 over the years and have always wanted to see how much hp you could squeeze out of one. With the exhaust I have right now I have a lot of people think that I got a v8. Dont ask what it is cause I have no idea, the guy I bought it off of installed the exhaust. But I plan to keep it. I guess I'll have to look into it. I would really like to keep the EFI if I can. thanks

4.8 is an LSx swap. And a truck LSx to boot.

4.3L swap is from a S10 and you'd have to go through all the issues of a V6 to V8 swap but are still stuck with a rough running V6. Gas mileage will plummet. S10's weigh less than 3rds and get pretty lousy mileage for a V6

IMHO, Id leave it stock, or sell it to get a LO3 car. LO3 has more torque which is the fun part and a little more power without much sacrifice to efficiency. It's also a super common SBC, so maintenance is cheap and often easier
