6 to 8 swap project

Hello folks. So heres my deal. I have a 1991 v6 firebird in rather good shape minus some body damage up front. (nothing major) I just bought a 1990 5.7 tpi firebird this car has a complete runing drivetrain and all the body parts i need to rebuild my 91. Once I get done robbing all the body and other small parts i need off this car i plan on swapping my v6 to the 5.7 v8. Is it possible to drop the whole front engine craddle and suspension from the v8 and bolt it up in the v6. any pointers as far as the computer and wiring .??? all help would be appericated thanks

You'll have to swap motor and tranny. You'll probably need V8 springs for the added weight anyway. I suppose the front end can be dropped out from under with motor in tact on the cradle - but that would require a lift. If no lift, you'll have to pull motor out the top like the rest of us driveway Joe's.

Yea i figured if i could drop the whole front end out of the donor car and bolt up in the receiving car id have my tougher suspension, motor mounts, and engine all at once. I do have a lift so that simplifies that portion of it. Its the wiring and computer swap that im unsure of. Sounds like the wiring and computer swap may end up being a real pain.

Yes, you can drop the cradle out from the bottom with the engine and transmission coming along for the ride. The springs can go with the cradle.

The wiring is easier than you think. It all unclips in neat bundles.

The tach needs to be switched as well. The V6 and V8 tachs are calibrated differently.

five7kid, good point i forgot about the tach, i remember reading about that in a forum but totally forgot all about it. I was looking at swapping out speedos since the v6 is a 120mph and the v8 was a 140mph. I guess on the wiring you just start at the engine and being labeling and disconnectiong working your way through the firewall to the computer.
