proud to say this my little 2.8l in my 89 bird has gotten 35-36 mpg highway 
before, 300 mile round trip and barely moved the needle off of the F on the gauge, i know the gauge is more for reference than accurate but i think thats awesome,

I've seen 28 from a 350, but I was doing 55-60 MPH. A really strong tailwind might have gotten me to 30?
I did it with a Q-Jet, a 700R-4, 3.23:1 gears, and 255/60R15 rear tires. That was in my '86 Z28. It was lowered, and had those smoked GTS headlight covers.
I know my speedometer was right, I went by one of those little trailers the police sometimes set up near speed limit signs.
