Alternator for my new 400

Finally got the engine in and mounted (I had to fab the mounts - we'll see if they hold).

Brakes are done and fuel lines and electrical are this week's projects, and I'd like to install an alternator. I'm not running any accessories (no power steering, electric water pump, no ac, etc), so this alternator will be driven directly off the crank, which means mounting low, where the mechanical fuel pump would normally be mounted, I think.

Since this is strictly for drag racing, I'm not sure what I need, and was hoping someone could recommend a light weight, decent alternator and mount. Just needs enough juice to run the fuel pump, water pump, ignition, and electric windows .

I've seen on jegs several 16 volt racing batteries, and wasn't sure if a standard alternator, ignition, fuel pump, etc, would correctly charge said battery. I was actually thinking of just going with an Optima Red Top, but am open to suggestions in this area as well.

if its race only, the alt wont do much. just run good deep cycle battery. youll have to charge it when you wanna run the car, but for short runs (like down a drag strip) you dont need a whole lot of battery to run the car.

Any recommendation on a good brand of battery? I see Braille on jegs seems popular.

Odyssey batteries are supposed to be pretty stout deep cycle batteries. Lots of good feedback from the stereo guys.
