What Motor should I put in my iroc?

I want to do a motor swap on my iroc. Right now it has a 305 tpi in it. I want to able to run 12s but not spend a boat load of money. What's my best to go with?

350 roller with w/ 906 vortecs and a decent cam should net you about 400hp and get you close for not a lot of money.

Definatley need to know what kind of money your working with....Carb or EFI? You can get a stock LQ9 engine with aluminum #317 heads and cam it and it will net you 450-500HP for dirt cheap....Definatley the route I would look at. We have built a few of them and Power for $ its unbeatable.

Re: What Motor should I put in my iroc?

You would need the Vortec to TPI intake manifold to fit the heads with your TPI system. The other thing is for emissions...the vortec heads do not have an exhaust port passage, but the intake has provision for it....depending on the camshaft...you may need a good tune and have to upgrade your fuel system.

I would personally stick with your 350, drop a set of Edelbrock or Dart TPI heads and a nice camshaft. If you dont have $ for that than Vortecs are a good option.

If I was doing a budget build. I would get a roller 350, 906 vortec heads and the comp cam spring cut tool. Beehive spring the vortec heads and rebuild them. Get some decent rockets and proper center bolt valve covers. Add an edelbrock airgap vortec manifold a ~480 lift cam and the carb of your choice. That should get you ~350-400 hp no prob.

Re: What Motor should I put in my iroc?

Idk why swapping is the only option, boost+exhaust and a cam could probably get you there, along with a decent air filter setup, and maybe some port work. Engine swaps can be a royal time and money consuming pita, depending on complexity. Also get some decent gears if you have mpg ones, which most of the v8s do. And stock drivetrain is questionable past 300 hp btw, it should probably handle 400, but be prepared for it to not if you don't upgrade.

Ya I love turbos but I hear that does work well with tpi. And I would have to forge my inturnals right? Or how boost much can a stock 305 take?

2k is not cheap, not for 12s. Plus he'd have to upgrade his fuel pump as well as source accessories and an oil pan. Again not cheap.

5.3L can be found much cheaper and any 5.3L into a 3rdgen will net high low 13's on street tires. Add a stall and drag radials and its instant 12s all day long.

There are many 5.3L choices. Just about all of them work well. I posted the link in your other thread on MFBA.
