5.0 tbi to 5.7 tpi/resto

started a resto on my bird and im ordering a 5.7 tpi engine from hawks and im having it rebuilt. not really doing a performance type of build just putting together my dream car. so i will be doing a 350 tuned port with flowtech shorty 2.5 inch headers and flowtech 2.5 inch ypipe into my stainless 2.5 inch magnaflow dual exhaust catback system.

but anyway sunday me and a buddy of mine are removing my old 5.0 tbi engine i have the 5 speed manual transmission(yes i know t5 350 = not lasting long.. BUT not to worry i have that all taken care of im going to have my transmission rebuilt it to hold up to this)

so my question is when we remove the old engine what is the process? i will be leaving the transmission in the car and i know the basics
remove bellhousing bolts
remove engine mount bolts

but is there anything in between the transmission and engine that i will have remove like on an automatic you have to remove torque converter bolts. will i have anything crazy bolts like clutch bolts or some stuff like that to remove?

There won't be any hidden bolts. Unbolt the bell housing from the engine and they'll come apart. If they've been bolted together since the car was new the alignment pins may be corroded so you'll have to wiggle and pry a little between them to separate the two.

With that being said, I'd advise you to pull them together and replace them together. I've done it both ways, pulling them together will save you a ton of time and headaches.

ok great i was actually going to go with the 305 tpi so i wont have to build the t5 for the 350 but i also might drop in a 350 with a 700r4

Choke-city. A 350 needs better exhaust than that.

If you already have that system, then it will run, but will be down on power. If you don't have those parts, don't waste money on them.

Re: 5.0 tbi to 5.7 tpi/resto

i have changed my mind im gonna run a 350 tuned port with a 700r4 with 3 inch long tube hedman headers. 1250 for the 350 and 350 for the 700r4 and about 190 for the headers. it should be good enough for a daily driver as i just recently got my learners today and im starting ccbc in maryland for gm asep.

Long tubes are not emissions-legal. They also cause exhaust routing issues, typically resulting in reduced ground clearance (not good for school parking lot speed bumps).

Nothing wrong with a T5 behind a 350 as long as you don't treat it like a rented mule. I've got a T5 in my IROC and it works beautifully. Keep the T5... you'll enjoy it a lot more than the 700R4.
