350 tpi build up questions
Hi all, I am going to be building a 350 tpi engine for an 88 GTA and I wanted to get some opinions on what I am planning to use and perhaps some suggestions on things to do differently. I want something that has some serious wheel spinning power but will not be taking this to the track so probably low-mid range power is more important to me I also dont want to make the thing bad on gas either. Stock I read is about 24mpg highway. Would like to be able to get at least 22mpg if I am taking it easy. I will be hooking this up to a t56. This is my first stab at a TPI engine so my only knowledge of it is what I have read on this site which has been very helpfull so far.
Here is what I am thinking of going with:
-350 roller cam block 4 bolt mains with one piece main seal bored .03 over
-AFR0919 heads with 180cc runner and 65cc chamber
-flat top hyperutectic pistons
-reuse stock connecting rods
-summit g6905 1.5 ratio roller rockers
-zz4 cam
-1-5/8 shorty headders
-stock injectors
-New crank (should I go forged or wil cast do?)
For the intake I could use some good advice. Not sure If I should go with high flow runners (thinking SLP) and a high flow base(open to suggestion on brand) or just the go with the runners and port the base as much as I can. Dont mind spending the extra if I am going to get something out of it but if it is 5 HP or something then would probably not bother.
Would I gaing much out of upgrading the throttle body to a larger one?
I figure this is going to cost me around $4500 which is about the same price as a ZZ4 crate but this way I will get better heads that will also allow me to keep the stock EGR setup from what I hear.

Heads - Pretty good stuff.
Rods - At least ARP rod bolts. Recommendation is to resize the rods when you replace the bolts. You can get good budget rods with ARP bolts already installed for about the same cost.
Rockers - I would spend a little more and get the Comp Cams Ultra Pro rockers.
Headers - Which ones, exactly? I'd recommend Hooker 2055HKR if you aren't set on anything yet.
Crank - Why a new one? For a ZZ4 cam, I'd save the cash and have the factory crank polished or turned as required. Spend the money you save on the rods & rockers.
Intake - Have you looked at the Holley/Weiand Stealth Ram?

Re: 350 tpi build up questions
Thanks for the reply. Couple more questions for you if you don't mind.
Rods - Summit has some for $200 with ARP bolts, so I think I will take your advice and repalce them. Eagle Specialty Products 5700BPLW
Rockers - What is the risk with the cheap ones? Are they likely to break or are the comp cams ones going to give better performance?
Headers - I was looking at the Hedman Hedders 68470. Those hookers come with a 3" outlet y pipe though which I have been searching for with no success. That might be the way to go but they are $170 more. Do you think it is worth the extra money? I am also under the inpression that I wont need those exaust gas takeoff lines with the heads I am using. Do they come with out that for less?
Intake - On those stealth rams I thought I had read that they were more geared to high end RPM. Would I not loose some torque going with that?
