350 Stroker
350 Stroker
I am looking to replace my worn out 305 TBI in my 90 Camaro RS. I have a 350 stroker putting out about 500 HP sitting in my garage. I got it for antother project but decided to keep it matching numbers restoration. With the TBI currently in the 90 camaro- what issues will I run into doing a carb engine swap? Any ideas, suggestions?

Re: 350 Stroker
Technically a 350 is a stroker. It's a 327 with a longer stroke. The 327 is also a stroker. It's a 302 stroked out to 327.
The 302, 327 and 350 all share the same 4" bore. They all have different length strokes. If putting in the 400's longer stroke into a 350 block and not boring out the block, you would only make a 377 but since everyone bores the block 0.030" over, it becomes a 383.
Your 305's TBI will work but may have problems supplying enough fuel to feed a 500HP 383. Even cranking the fuel pressure to 15 psi, there's only so much fuel you can push through 2 injectors. My 91 454SS has a TBI and uses larger injectors than a SBC. In stock form, the injectors can only handle 300-350 hp. There are some aftermarket injectors designed to flow more fuel but again, with only 2 injectors, it's really limited.
Installing a carb engine isn't an issue. If you have a computer controlled transmission such as a 4L60E, you'll need to install a TPS on the carb so that the computer will know the position of the throttle to shift the transmission.
