409 Swap Questions
hey guys
im new to the third gen site and am currently in the process of getting rid of the 305 tbi and putting in a built 409
the 409 has a holley carb and is beefed up and wanted to put it in my 89 camaro but need some help on how to do this. my biggest concern is the fuel pump in the gas tank was hoping to keep it in there and use the pump on the 409 and run it to the carb and another problem is the computer system and what to get rid of and not to get rid of cause i have the pass lock system and still want to keep tht the next problem is keeping the 700r4 with the shift kit in it and wanted to know how to make that run good with the 409 any help would be great thanx

He says 409 though, not 400... which to most people means a Generation I BBC.

That will drop pump pressure down for carb use
All you have to do is bypass the starter enable relay
If you want anti theft protection install a hidden switch on the wiring to fuel pump
Computer has no effect on how trans shifts.
All it does is control the converter lockup function so you rewire that to work with a manually operated switch.
( there are other means that will automatically operate the lockup but more $$$ )

Re: 409 Swap Questions
Well then I have this to offer. Those engines where nearly 700lbs.The dual four barrels I think was rated at 425 hp at the f/w.Very,very,expensive to build these days. One of my friends has a 348 witch is basically the smaller version of that and paid just about $400.00 for a set of bearings.Ouch!!.
Yeah-back then with cams, you would stab a cam into it and see what it run.
