Belt Routing Trouble
Belt Routing Trouble
Hey guys,
I have a 92 camaro with a carbed 350 in it. I took out the smog pump and followed the belt routing diagram here... https://www.thirdgen.org/serpentine This is a brand new build so I took the car out once and after driving it I realized it was overheating. I checked the thermostat, hoses, radiator, fluid, everything was good. Timing was off but has now been corrected. After looking into it more, I realized my water pump should be spinning counter-clockwise right? Then why do they show that belt routing for the smog pump delete? Doesn't that spin the water pump clockwise? I am very confused. I figured maybe I was overheating due to the pump spinning the wrong way, because on the routing diagram at the top of my fan shroud, it shows to wrap it around the opposite side of the water pump.

Re: Belt Routing Trouble
As long as it's the outside of the belt touching it, it will spin in the right direction.
Re: Belt Routing Trouble
Really? Hmm, well thanks for that information. That does however make things tricky then regarding the overheating issue. I figured it would have been the water pump direction.
