305tpi engine swap questions
Hi everyone, Ive read the threads on here but I have questions still.
I have a 1986 iroc-z28 305tpi.
What I want to do is put a pre 1982 350 block from a corvette with my 305 tpi top end can it be done? and what do I need to change, what I mean is everything still the same that I read in other posts?
Also will the oil dipstick be ok with it being on the other side??

How "pre-'82" is the block? The dipstick changed sides in 1980.
Your '86 is one-piece rear main seal, 153-tooth flexplate. '85-earlier were 2-piece rear main seal, and many before '82 used 168-tooth flexplate. So, you may need a different flexplate.
350 TPI used different injectors and different knock sensor than 305.
Otherwise, shouldn't be issues.

Re: 305tpi engine swap questions
Thanks five7kid, the place that has the block is a corvette restoration shop that deal with 1953-1982 so i reallly dont know what year the block would be. But your saying that the dipstick is on the the same side as my 305 if the block is before 1980?? Would my computer and stuff work with the 350 block and 350 injectors?? thanks again

The dipstick would be on the opposite side from your '86 if the block is '79-earlier. This will cause an interference problem if you're using the '86 exhaust manifold, but if you're running headers, you won't have any problem.
The engine would run better with a 350 tune (i.e., custom tune), but you won't have any particular problems running the 350 with the 305 computer.

Re: 305tpi engine swap questions
Thanks again, He emailed me and said the block would be 75-79 and Yes it would be headers. what do you do withthe computer/ Do you hve the 305 com prog for a 350 or do I have to buy a different one all togather? Sorry for all the questions. Now a buddy of mine told me he could get me a 383 stroker with 300 miles for about 1700 but I really dont have te cash for it. it would be nice t find a 350 block with some internals to it as well. oh fond 1 more 350 block for $50 its a 86 .

The choices with the computer are do nothing, buy a chip, have your chip programmed with the 350 stuff, have your chip custom programmed.
If you are talking about a bare block, then basically nothing from your 305 would fit in it. I assumed you meant "shortblock", which includes crank, bearings, rods, pistons, rings, and sometimes cam and timing set. It makes more sense to find a 350 shortblock, even if needs to be rebuilt.
