cant decide on keep it or go back to tpi
ok so heres my situation i got a 355 sbc (carburated) in my gta now i recently picked up a set of 113 corvette aluminum heads which are now at the machine shop getting rebuilt an cleaned up ive also ordered a thumper comp cam to go with the heads the max lift of the cam is .531 intake/.517 exhaust, rpm range is 2,500-6,200. also a set of summit roller rockers with a 1.6 ratio. i have been trying to figure out on what setup to do either a tpi which can get difficult, an really aggravated when stuff starts going wrong an breaking or keep the edelbrock intake an edelbrock 650cfm carb. in the motor i know that the whining timing gears will have to get taking out due to the knock sensor, all the tpi accessories i will have to find air intake setup, dist, etc. i have a complete tpi setup off a 5.0 (305) tpi t5 standard car sitting in my cellar going to rot an waste that i can pull out an get cleaned up an ported a little bit. the wiring harness for the tpi is still in the car also the intank fuel pump is there as well. hope to get

TPI motors are cool. Start easy, better gas mileage. Not the best match for that cam though.

Re: cant decide on keep it or go back to tpi
what would be a good cam/lift setup for the heads an this motor if i was to go back to tpi. that is the one thing i did like about the tpi motor i use to get atleast 250+ miles on the trip meter with the torque converter lockup on the 700r4 an tpi setup now with the carb setup im only getting about 130 miles to a full tank. my main intentions are to get a decent amount of torque,hp to the rear wheels an also get somewhat good fuel eco out of this winter build

I like the TPI and plan on keeping it. I just installed a Comp Cams 268xfi hr13 cam. Depending if you port your intake or not the TPI won't "breathe" above 5200-5500 and is definitely set up for low end torque considering its an LTR set up.
Cam specs are:
1800-5800 RPM
Dur @ .050 218/224
lift .570/.565
this is all with 1.6 rockers

yea i was told also that the tpi suffercates it's self anything above 5 grand which is kinda a bad thing with me cause i usually like to red line when i shift but i do like the high low end torque its what actually made the third gen get up an go but lack at the top end power range :-(

for a street car honestly you cant go wrong with a tpi setup..it makes the best power and torque to where we street cars really use our power at anyways.. now if it was an all out race car or a car that sees alot of track time id look into a different manifold....
Re: cant decide on keep it or go back to tpi
What about an alternative intake like the HSR or getting something like the Accel intake? Just some food for thought. Just because you're going with EFI doesn't mean you have to use TPI.

Re: cant decide on keep it or go back to tpi
im trying to do this winter swap on a budget since i have the stock gm tpi setup why not use it an save some money, i was looking into aftermarket larger runners like the eldelbrock ones with a lt1 throttle body but it looked to be kinda pricey. i didnt even known accel made a tpi setup i thought accel was just a aftermarket ignition company that sold ignition wires, spark plugs, an injectors i had no idea they did intakes a other stuff

Take another look at the Holley/Weiand Stealth Ram. It is base/runners/plenum in one package, and costs about the same as aftermarket TPI runners alone. Its powerband will support your current cam.

I must say holy cow that stealth ram set up is perfect I didn't even know that holly did those intakes but what I'm wondering is will this setup work with the timing gears whine that I have or will I have to change that also do they make that intake bolt up to corvette 113 L98 heads cause if so I'm definitely gonna order that intake in the near future

I've got a question on that stealth ram does anyone know if factory tpi fuel rails will work on that? Because this has sparked my interest in that intake as well

Re: cant decide on keep it or go back to tpi
too late, its already sold
. but yea tpi barely lets a 305 breath at higher rpms. let alone a 350. if you want a power band to about say 5grand, you arent gonna get it without heavily modifying the stock tpi. i wouldnt mind taking that tpi off your hands though

Re: cant decide on keep it or go back to tpi
Yeah I was looking it up earlier and didn't see anything about the fuel rails. I did notice however that they recommended a twin 58mm throttle body which I currently have on my car and have been told its too big for a mildly built 350. So I'm curious as to which would be best with that intake on a mild 350.

stock lt1 or holley twin 58. the stock lt1 would probably be better for the mild build and probably cheaper to boot.
