Re: Duramax Thirdgen Swap
What sort of hood do you have to run to now accommodate twin relocated turbos? Any ideas? Maybe build the setup, cut up a flat hood around it and figure it out that way?
I'm asking because I'm thinking of doing just that with my single turbo project. Maybe do a rough cut out with a flat hood, then I can see what needs to go where.
Great project man, I really enjoy watching it.

Re: Duramax Thirdgen Swap
there will be no cutting at all I have a SS hood now and it has a 2 inch cowl but now that im going with twins it will be alot lower the turbos will be up front one behind each headlight setup and that way I can free up more space behind the motor too and set it back as far as possible

Re: Duramax Thirdgen Swap
Looking like this one won't get finished. No updates, not even any excuses. Curious how many subscribers here can and will copy this if it ever gets completed? I'm solidly in the camp of just curious about the idea. I've driven an '06 Dmax 2500HD, I understand the appeal of this swap, but it's looking like a fabricator's headache. Plus the weight and cost are both as excessive as the fab work required. Come on Lunati397, or I'll be the first with a diesel running, even if my non-turbo 6.2 isn't as fun to drive.

Re: Duramax Thirdgen Swap
Im working it and gave a status update I am in the Airforce and either between Temp duty and 12 hour shifts I havent had the time even this weekend just got ruined becuase I found out today that I will have to come in and work. That on top of doing a V6 to ls6 auto to 6 speed swap on a firebird and a 6.0 swap into a 85 caprice and a 6.0 swap into a older impala and now I have a ditchwitch with a broken timing gear for a ancient motor so I have to get it machined and I am the only powdercoater in town so I do keep pretty busy
Fabrication isnt and issue right now I have the motor in and I am about to make the mounts to get it in for good I am also not just putting a motor in to get it in I am smoothing cleaning and doing all the finishwork to it looks good too.
If i wanted to put a 400 in I would have gone with a 6.2 not to put your swap down because I like what you are doing and at your rate you will be first but there are two ways to do things the right way and again and I am a perfectionist so I want it all to be top nocth once around

BTW sold my truck and got a 2012 F350 Lariot went to the dark side but had good reason 14.5 out of my half ton and im getting 19.5 out of my new 1 ton and the new powerstroke is a good looking motor design wise and its silent (bears a striking resemblance to the GM 4.5 that got canned a few years ago)

Re: Duramax Thirdgen Swap
Sorry if you felt attacked, I was actually in the mood for good-natured, casual conversation. Same right now: Sorry you're swamped, with no breathing room. Maybe I should be glad the Navy never let me in, all those years ago? Yeah, I want mine to look clean and neat, but I don't see any sense in worrying how anything looks until every part is finalized for fit and function. That's how the most-in-demand pros do it, so that's how I do it. I tried to get Fallen2603 to understand this with his Ecotec IROC-Z, but you guys seem to prefer driveway paperweights over showable drivers. Right now it looks like I won't be making it to the 2012 Cruise-In, so I should have my engine washed, partly dis-assembled, re-painted, new gaskets, reassembled and running in time for next year. Then pull the engine the day after the 2103 Cruise-In, since by then I'll have MPG numbers and proof. Plus by then I'll have my next drivetrain combo ready to final-install and drive. Finalize the designs, go for a test drive, then we'll all be convinced. After that you can take it back apart, make everything look however you want, and stay more motivated all the way through the entire process. Or if it can't be what you hope / expect, you'll find out before you put too much extra money and effort into the project.

Re: Duramax Thirdgen Swap
I am just taking my time im not giveing myself a deadline or anything because anything can come up but one thing will stay true when I get started I will finish and when it comes down to it where I make a few grand doing someone elses car or mine I go for making the money it makes it so I can afford to buy good tools and equipment
If it came down to it I can have it in and running in a week or so but it will look like crap and be half assed and I have done that before and it always comes back around to bite you in the *** because once its running and good you dont want to pull everything out again

Re: Duramax Thirdgen Swap
have you got the wiring figured out?
i just bought another '07 lbz engine a couple of weeks ago. 135k miles on it. it was getting coolant out the exhaust somehow. they put a new set of head gaskets on it, but the problem continued. im in the process of trying to diagnose the original problem.
gotta rig it up so i can pressurize the coolant system on the engine and check for leaks. if i pull the heads it will cost me $800 to put them back on there, so im trying to avoid that.
so far i have owned:
1 '06 lbz with a broken crankshaft
1 '06 lbz with a bad wrist pin bushing and damaged cylinder wall
1 lb7 with good shortblock but some sort of topend issue
1 '07 lbz with possible cracked head
im glad some people have good luck with these things. lol

sometimes working and getting the extra cash can postpone your project but make it move along faster later on. keep up the good work if you have pics of the customers cars and they let you, i and probably everyone else would love to see them

Nothing wrong with the snapon lower box ... but a bit small. What brand is that new one? Looks pretty nice! Plenty of room in that box you'll soon fill it up, but the storage is more efficient.

I put the barter king guys to shame I traded a 350 for the matco tool box and I traded a set of 20s that I got for powdercoating some bike parts for the aircompressor
