89 305

Hi guys I have been out of the game for a looooooong time my last fun car was a 1970 Chevelle SS and that was in 1977 got married had kids you know life anyway i got my hands on this 1989 Iroc ragtop (do they still call them that) it has a 6 speed trans which we have now id'ed as t T-56 and has had some mods such as 4 wheel discs and true GM duel ext including cats which I have been told are not stock for the car as it was an Auto trans the eng code is LB9 and it is loaded -air window etc I would like to up the fun factor abit if I have the specs right this car has 220 hp but I would like to find and easy swap eg: exhaust, AC and such keep in mind when I was into this stuff you could pretty much drop any GM engine into any GM car LOL without ECM's and the likes I tried reading through the swap section but most of these are for the pros not hacks like me I did run accross a post that sounded like a 1994 corvette eng was the best fit and gave you 300 HP not the LT5 but LT1 any ideas for the KISS guys like me

Very nice T56 is the way to go and it is an expensive swap so enjoy it.

For more power you should be fine with just about any 350. Build a nice mild cammed LT1 and enjoy.

Re: 89 305

I was reading a few threads here where they stated they could not use the AC with certain LT1's back in the day all SBC were the same so any 305 could be upgraded to a 350 and all Alt/PS/AC brackets could be transfered over please forgive my lack of knowlage and dumb *** questions

I would look for a L98 then swap the heads and cam. The l98 came out of other 3rd gens and vetts of similar eras.

Re: 89 305

what rear end ratio do you have?i put a 3.42 rear in my car and it helped a lot.with a t56 you may want a 3.73.

Re: 89 305

not too sure I know from the build sheet it was a 327 but the axle may have been changed as it now has rear disc brakes and they were not org to the car I know I have G80 but I will have to open it up to be sure
